Sophiko Simsive, now living in the Netherlands, grew up in Georgia with folk music and the meditative sounds of Gia Kancheli, the Arvo Pärt of her homeland. She was the youngest student ever at the Sweelinck Conservatory, won the Prinses Christina competition, and in 2010 she was laureate of Dutch Classical Talent. Beethoven's op.35, like his Third Symphony with the same name, varies the theme of the heroic and tortured Prometheus. Chopin composed the Preludes during a rainy winter in Mallorca, disastrous for his already shaky health. And Prokofiev's Sonata, from the 1917 revolution, is the homage to a friend who had committed suicide.
