Maastricht has a rich club life that contributes to the togetherness within the city. Residents come together within these associations to pursue their passions in each other's company. Maastricht's cultural associations, carnival clubs, student associations and other organisations often have a long history intertwined with the city.

Carnival associations

Maastricht is home to numerous carnival associations. The best-known association is the city carnival association De Tempeleers, which was founded in 1945. The Tempeleers are recognised by the city council as the responsible organisation for carnival in Maastricht. The association is committed to preserving valuable traditional elements of carnival celebrations, but they have also often given carnival new impulses over the decades.

A large part of Maastricht's club life consists of cultural organisations. For example, the city has several different amateur theatre companies, such as 't Mestreechs Volleks Tejater and the Mestreechter Operètte Vereiniging. The Koninklijke Zangvereniging Mastreechter Staar can also be counted among Maastricht's club life. This male choir has been performing an extensive repertoire since its foundation in the 19th century. Maastricht also has a rich array of brass bands, drum bands and fanfares, such as Ster van Maastricht, St. Petrus & Paulus and Wilhelmina Wolder.

Maastricht is a friendly student city with numerous student associations that any student can join. In addition, students can also join study associations of the course they are taking and student sports associations. Every year, the INKOM is an important event where new students are festively welcomed to the city.
