The heart of Europe

Hop on the train and you'll be in Amsterdam in 2.5 hours and Paris in 4 hours. Take the car and you can drive to Aachen, Cologne or Brussels in no time. From Maastricht Aachen Airport, fly to destinations such as Porto, Zadar, Girona, Antalya or Lourdes. Maastricht's Euroregional location places both the city and the region prominently on the map.

Different languages and cultures

Maastricht is a city where borders blur. Due to its location in the heart of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion, a border region with parts of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, the city has traditionally been a meeting place for different language cultures. Throughout the centuries, Maastricht residents spoke French, German, Limburgish and Dutch. Not surprisingly, the Maastricht dialect contains many French and German words. Influences from neighbouring countries can still be felt in the city's cultural and culinary offerings.
