Romantic city break in Maastricht

Oh, l'amour... Nothing as romantic as a few days in Maastricht! We would like to give you a few golden tips to capture the heart of your beloved. Not only will you discover the love of the city better during the week, a visit to one of the places suggested below equals a successful stay. Our hearts are already racing...

  • Couple at Lumiere Maastricht

Day 1: The sweetest stay - at Boutique Hotel DARQ

A chocolate hotel, yes: you read it right! Since 2024, Boutique Hotel DARQ has opened its doors. Where Jorrit and Laura used to run the place in town for the tastiest (and fairest!) coffee and chocolate, you can now stay in the floors above their establishment. The hotel tells the sweet and fairy tale story of chocolate. Each room has its own theme; from plantation to white chocolate.

Strolling through romantic streets

The beauty of this hotel is also its location, in the heart of the Stokstraat Quarter. You can walk past the lovely boutiques, but you can also cross the bridge for dynamic Wyck or take a detour for some romance in the Jeker Quarter. Be sure to burn a candle in the nearby Basilica of Our Lady. Locals do this every time they pass the church, religious or not... Just to pause for a moment.

  • Jekerkwartier Maastricht

Maastricht stay

Starting to get hungry already? Then walk 2 minutes from the hotel into Wolfstraat to settle down at Café de Bòbbel. A culinary dinner in a very casual atmosphere. Have a good Maastricht time in front of the large window, where you can watch Maastricht strolling unabashedly.

Day 2: The green heart - discover

A good start to the day is a great breakfast. A phenomenal start to the day is a breakfast at DARQ. After a night of wonderful dreams (and perhaps a little sleep in the morning), it's time to indulge in breakfast. The combination of coffee and chocolate... Can it get any better?

  • DARQ Maastricht

On the banks of the river Maas and the beginning of the idyllic Stokstraat quarter is DARQ, a unique chocolate and coffee concept in a setting of luxury and history. More info about DARQ Maastricht

Time for nature

After that, it's time to get into action. If you want your heart to beat faster, a walk towards the Sint-Pietersberg (St. Pietersberg hill) is a good idea. Maastricht is a compact city, which is why - via the Stadspark and the Sint Pieter district - you can be at Sint-Pietersberg (St. Pietersberg hill) in just 15 minutes. Fancy a brisk walk? Then walk on to the viewpoint of the ENCI quarry and take your time to take in this amazing view. Battle the exciting steps that lead you into the valley and take a lovely walk through this special piece of nature.

Indulge your taste buds

Fancy pampering yourself culinarily again? Then return and take a seat at Bistro Vief, at the foot of Sint-Pietersberg (St. Pietersberg hill). A new restaurant where you can eat well without too much fuss. Here you really taste Maastricht gastronomy. After a nice lunch, walk back into town to discover the different quarters. The Jeker Quarter is a real French-feeling part of Maastricht. With beautiful antique shops, typical Maastricht cafés and delicatessens. Around cocktail time, we recommend a visit to de Kaasbar. A robust special beer with a rich cheese board, there goes our heart already!

Dreaming away at the film

Because culture also enriches the heart, we still send you towards one of the region's finest cinemas. Lumière is located on the historic marina, but also falls in the district called Sphinx Quarter. An upcoming district that recounts Maastricht's industrial past. Anyway, book a ticket for a film from the movie house selection and dream away at a cinematic surprise for just a moment. The nice thing about Lumière is that you can also go to the café, which actually doesn't quite cover it. Because from brunch to dinner and drinks, you can always find something delicious at Lumière Grand Café. Before, after or without a film!

  • Lumière Cinema

With six theatres and an atmospheric Grand Café, Lumière Cinema is the place for the exceptional film in Maastricht. More info on Lumière Cinema

Day 3: Sunday afterglow, - but during the week

If you are staying in Maastricht during the week, we would like to give you a few tips to still get that ultimate Sunday feeling. Because nothing is better than discussing your experiences in Maastricht at your leisure and enjoying them to the full. This is perfectly possible at Café Zondag in Maastricht. A place where the most colourful people meet in an artistic and creative atmosphere. Maastricht baker Matthieu Hermans supplies flan and croissants, but they conjure up the most surprising breakfast menus or lunch dishes in no time.

Just a bit more shopping

While you're at it, dive into Wyck! Several boutiques, concept stores and local makers welcome you into their shops. There are countless hidden spots where you can make some last love to the beautiful city. Don't forget to take something heart-warming home? Like a Maastricht souvenir or a real Limburg flan....
