Mural Borderless Cooperation

Mural in the entrance hall of the Lindenpoort apartment complex.

Boundless Cooperation, now located as a remake in the Lindepoort apartment complex, was a 1991 mural by Belgian artist Eddie van Hoef. The work adorned the side wall of a row of houses on Statensingel on the corner with Maagdendries. For many people, this was the gateway to the city centre. Indeed, until the relocation of the Noorderbrug exit in 2017-2018, a lot of traffic passed this location via the bridge.

The reason for the mural was the 150-year separation of Dutch and Belgian Limburg in 1989. The separation was stipulated in the Treaty of London in 1839.

Boundless Cooperation showed a colourful display of Dutch and Belgian puppets in a maze of stairs. The mural was 15 metres high and 10 metres wide. By the end of 2012, a housing complex, located on Maagdendries, had been built against it, rendering the mural invisible.

As compensation, a detail of the original mural was reinstalled in the entrance hall of that complex. You can still walk into the hall to see a (remake) of part of the artwork.
