The City Hall of the Municipality of Maastricht is located in Mosae Forum, a modern urban area between the Markt and the Meuse. The modern white building forms a striking contrast to the historic city centre. Various municipal services are based here, and residents can visit to deal with matters relating to the council.

Modern architecture
The white building housing the city council offices was designed by the Maastricht-based architect Jo Coenen. Together with the adjacent building by the Belgian architect Bruno Albert, it forms a single architectural whole. The two buildings are connected by a striking glass sky bridge, which immediately catches the eye.

Old and new connected
Although the municipal offices are modern, history is literally just round the corner. Across the Markt stands the 17th-century Town Hall, where the city council has been based for centuries. The old Town Hall and the modern city office each serve a different purpose, but both belong to the municipality of Maastricht.

Fun fact
Beneath the Markt, there is a tunnel running between the historic Town Hall and the municipal offices. The passageway was built in an era before email, so that important files could be quickly delivered to the right desk. The tunnel was preserved during the construction of Mosae Forum .
