The Studio #10: Eline Kersten
When our living environment changes or disappears, what does that mean for us as humans? Eline Kersten explores this question. Kersten has a particular fascination for changing landscapes. Her work highlights how climate change affects us, from melting glaciers to wildfires. She often collaborates with climate scientists, composers and firefighters.

Glass time capsules
In The Studio #10, she shows hand-blown glass sculptures filled with liquid: melted glacier water more than a hundred thousand years old, drilled in Greenland and Antarctica. In collaboration with glaciologist Michaela Mühl, Kersten thus provides a new, imaginative look at disappearing glaciers.

Fire as a force
Kersten also explores wildfires, showing how fire both destroys and creates. In the screenprint series All that remains (2025), she uses charcoal from former fire areas in Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland. In Life, by any other name (2025), she brings charred wood to life and shows the power of destruction as well as restoration.

About the artist

She received the Limburg Visual Arts (LBK) Stipend in 2025, including a residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie and this solo presentation at Bonnefanten.
