Foxtrot
UNTIL 7 June
A sparkling musical classic full of humour, drama and unforgettable songs, set against the backdrop of the turbulent 1930s.
An ode to a Dutch classic
Foxtrot is one of the biggest successes of Annie M.G. Schmidt and Harry Bannink, the founding fathers of the Dutch musical. In honour of the 30th anniversary of Schmidt's death, this legendary show returns in a brand new version.
Dancing on a volcano
The story is set in the turbulent 1930s: a time of exuberant entertainment and growing worries. We follow Josien, a naive girl from the province who tries her luck in Amsterdam. In an artists' boarding house, she meets flamboyant revue artists Jules and Lisette, who introduce her to a world full of glitter, secrets and hidden desires.
Love, secrets and choices
When Josien falls in love with Jules, it soon becomes clear that her feelings are not reciprocated. Meanwhile, there is more going on under the surface: forbidden loves, double lives and complicated relationships create tension. An unexpected twist forces the characters to make difficult and far-reaching choices.
A party with a raw edge
With a strong cast, including Gerrie van der Klei, and a fresh and contemporary performance, Foxtrot brings a unique combination of humour, tragedy and show. Expect an evening full of nostalgia, sharp lyrics and compelling music, a story as sparkling as it is confrontational.
