The power of the image
From 23 June to 2 August, Centre Céramique will be showcasing the finalists of the European Cartoon Award 2025. The exhibition brings together the best political and social cartoons from across Europe and demonstrates how a single drawing can make a powerful statement about current events, social developments and the state of democracy.
Freedom of expression in pictures
The European Cartoon Award was established in 2019 by the European Press Prize and Studio Europa Maastricht. The award honours cartoonists who contribute to public debate through humour, wit and creativity. Their work holds up a mirror to society and underlines the importance of free journalism and freedom of expression. Anyone wishing to discover the art of cartoon drawing for themselves can take part in a workshop led by cartoonist Maarten Wolterink on 11 July.
