From Sketch to Shine
Daily
In this exhibition, discover how Maastricht was a city of makers, craftsmen and innovators for two centuries.
From design to final product
From 10 April 2026, Van Schets tot Glans (from Sketch to Shine) shows how glass and ceramics production in Maastricht were closely intertwined. Designers often worked for several factories at the same time, so ideas and techniques were constantly evolving. Visitors follow the manufacturing process from initial sketches and moulds to finished objects.
Industrial growth
Factories such as Petrus Regout, De Sphinx, Société Céramique and Mosa made Maastricht a major manufacturing hub from the 19th century onwards. In the exhibition, you will discover tableware, decorative objects and designs that influenced both everyday life and design history.
The legacy of the Kristalunie
Kristalunie Maastricht also features extensively, with work by designers such as Willem Jacob Rozendaal and Max Verboeket. Original sketches, moulds and finished products show the development from craft to modern industrial design.
From past to future
The exhibition also reflects on the recent end of glass production in the city, following the closure of O-I Manufacturing in 2026. At the same time, it looks ahead, with work by young maker Emmy Mevissen, who continues the Maastricht tradition in a contemporary way.
