During the Maastricht Year 2026, the city's rich history will be tastefully translated in Preuve vaan Toen. In the Muziekgieterij , residents and visitors come together not only to look at the past, but above all to taste and experience it.

The event is part of the broader Maastricht year, which focuses on meeting and connecting. By harking back to stories, traditions and memories from the city, new connections are made between different generations and cultures.

Preuve vaan Toen focuses specifically on the culinary side of that history. The organisation emphasises that Maastricht is not only visible in its buildings and dialect, but also tangible and tasty in its cuisine. During the day, visitors are invited to actively participate: from sharing family recipes to cooking and tasting together during a joint tasting afternoon.

The programme combines food with music, stories and local traditions. Classic dishes such as sauerkraut stand alongside influences from earlier periods, such as Roman spices and historical preparation methods. This creates a multifaceted experience where the past does not remain static, but rather comes alive again in the present.

What makes this event special is the emphasis on encounters. While visitors cook, eat and share stories together, space is created for new conversations and connections. In doing so, the Muziekgieterij forms a contemporary and accessible place where culture and community come together.

Preuve vaan Toen is therefore more than just a culinary event: it is a shared experience in which the flavours of Maastricht evoke memories and give rise to new stories.

Before we can start tasting, we search for traditional recipes. From old spice mixtures to sour meat that has been soaking for hours. Not only delicious, but also with a soul. Who knows, maybe your recipe will be chosen by the jury at Bosch Brewery on 28 June and everyone can enjoy it at Muziekgieterij on 8 November. Submit your recipe via the Preuve vaan Toen website.
