The Last Showgirl: On Beauty & Aging
UNTIL 11 May
Film screening and panel discussion on beauty, femininity and ageing, in collaboration with Maastricht Young Academy.
Film as starting point
The Last Showgirl (Gia Coppola, 2024) offers a penetrating look at the relationship between beauty, femininity and age. In a world where the female body is constantly judged, the film shows how these norms permeate one's self-image, career and identity.
On visibility and change
The film asks questions that linger: what happens when attention disappears? How do you deal with ageing in a society where there seems to be hardly any room for it? And which stories are still missing?
Panel discussion with experts
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion in English, organised in cooperation with Maastricht Young Academy. From different perspectives, themes such as gender, representation and social expectations around ageing will be explored.
