Studium Generale - Doggerland. Vanished prehistoric world in the North Sea
UNTIL 11 December 2025
Prof. Luc Amkreutz takes you to Doggerland, a vanished world full of spectacular archaeological finds about man and climate.
Off our coast, in the North Sea, lies one of Europe's most important archaeological sites: Doggerland. Our beaches border a rich landscape that has been mostly dry for the past million years, covering more than 200,000 square kilometres at any one time. Here we find traces of early humanoids, neanderthals, including the first of the Netherlands, lived for tens of thousands of years, and modern humans faced extensive climate change and a drowning landscape.
