Presence in Process
UNTIL 30 August
Thirty years of craftsmanship and innovation come together in Claudy Jongstra's solo exhibition at the Cuypershuis in Roermond.
In Presence in Process - 30 Years of Art and Craft at Studio Claudy Jongstra, the Cuypershuis in Roermond shows thirty years of artistic mastery by internationally renowned artist and activist Claudy Jongstra. The exhibition brings together never-before-seen studies, experimental works and one-offs from her archive with iconic projects and new work created especially for this presentation.
On show are, among others, graduation works, the famous dress for Viktor & Rolf, collaborations with Marc Mulders and LOADS Collection, and key works such as Guernica de la Ecología and Tangible Transformation I. In the former workshops of architect Pierre Cuypers, in the city where her roots lie, Jongstra makes visible her mission, choices and artistic development.
The emphasis is on material research, experiments with wool, natural pigments and age-old textile techniques such as ajour and guipure. Colour charts, sketches and tactile studies show her continuous search for new forms, structures and meanings. This journey leads to impressive, internationally acclaimed wool-felted artworks and installations that connect craft and current affairs.
