Opera Zuid - Uprising

A topical and urgent story
With Uprising, Opera Zuid, Het Geluid Maastricht and De Nationale Opera present a large-scale production on one of the most urgent themes of our time: the climate crisis. The opera zooms in on the uprising of young people fighting for change and a liveable future.

Personal and confrontational
At its heart is the story of a mother and daughter who are diametrically opposed. Their clash shows how social tensions affect personal relationships. Uprising is thus not only a political story, but above all a human story about understanding, conflict and living together.

A collective experience
Directed by Gable Roelofsen and Romy Roelofsen, the performance grows into an impressive whole. A choir of a hundred community singers and six professional soloists together form a mini-society on stage. Jonathan Dove's music is grand and compelling, with powerful harmonies and rich orchestral sounds that make this opera an intense overall experience.
