On the occasion of the Maastricht Year, some classes receive extra lessons about the rich history of their city and its surroundings. The pupils go on a voyage of discovery along turning points in Maastricht history. The Maastricht legends and the book Nieuwe kleren voor de Zonnekoning (New Clothes for the Sun King) will be read. The journey continues in a treasure hunt through the city, along landmarks and places from the stories

History comes to life
In subsequent lessons, pupils create a 2D artwork around a specific event in the city's history. For example, the invasion of Louis XIV, the Three Musketeers and d'Artagnan, or the twelve hidden treasures of the Silver Apostles, among others, each come to life in a unique way.

The same classes are also visited by students of the Conservatorium Maastricht. During interactive workshops, the musicians introduce the pupils to their love of music. The children discover different instruments, ensemble playing and the expressive power of music. At the same time, they get an insight into the life of an international student in Maastricht. Thus, the pupils not only get to know the city's history, but also its vibrant cultural life.

The closing concert
During a big final concert, all the impressions of the past months come together in the main hall of the Theater aan het Vrijthof. The children's drawings are projected on a screen while an actor tells three stories about Maastricht. The musicians weave image and music into a full concert.

Afterwards, the audience can chat in the foyer, where twelve drawings are on display again. They refer to the twelve hidden treasures from the story of the apostles. Coincidence or not, Through the eyes of a child is also performed by twelve musicians doing an interactive game with children. Hidden treasures are all around us. This project invites the audience to discover those treasures in each other, connected to each other, to history and to Maastricht.
