Climb aboard the Summer Evening Express and travel through the South Limburg Hill Country as the sun sets. The historic steam train runs on various evenings in July and August from Simpelveld.
An evening train journey through the Heuvelland
During this evening train journey, you’ll see South Limburg in a unique way. From the train, you’ll look out over the rolling countryside as daylight slowly gives way to evening. The journey takes you along the Miljoenenlijn, one of the region’s best-known railway lines.

route and departure timeSteam locomotive 52 532 departs at 7.15 pm from Simpelveld Station bound for Kerkrade. After a short stop, the train returns and then continues non-stop to Schin op Geul. This takes you from one end of the Miljoenenlijn – the highest railway line in the Netherlands – to the other.
At around 9.15 pm, after sunset, the train arrives back in Simpelveld.
Practical information
Make sure you arrive at Simpelveld Station at least half an hour before departure. This will give you plenty of time to board the train and find a seat on the plush sofas in one of the first-class carriages.
