Between 1575 and 1825, a network of corridors or mining galleries developed on the western side of Maastricht. These corridors were used to approach and defuse the enemy underground during a siege of the city. In these defences, take a walk through brick tunnels, and the intersections that all look alike create confusion. Also, sit on a narrow wooden bench as the Maastricht people did during World War II, while high above them the bombers passed overhead. Whisper something in friends' ears in the dark. Also visit the exhibition highlighting two periods of hiding; World War II and the Cold War. Photographs, original posters and installations paint a good atmospheric picture that harks back to this often frightening and oppressive time, which will also occasionally raise a smile and provoke thought.
