Somnium al Salaam / Dream of Peace brings together Western and Eastern sounds in a musical triptych about loss, hope and connection
Somnium al Salaam / Dream of Peace is a triptych that brings together Western and Eastern voices. A desperate woman sings, "I am so sad, what should I do?" An Arabic voice cries out from the depths. The combination of languages - Arabic, Persian, Latin, Hebrew, Spanish - transcends words: emotion is what counts. Inspired by the tragedies in Afghanistan and other wars, the singers express loss, hope and connection. Western guitar, Eastern flute and a baroque choir form a musical path to light and peace. Listen, feel, and recognise the universal dream: peace for all.
The opening piece is the Requiem by city composer Hans Leenders, a multi-part composition on the Proprium texts of the Gregorian Requiem, with the final part In Paradisum already pointing to the final part of Beljon's Somnium al Salaam.
The event takes place on the occasion of the Sanctuary Day.
