Walk through the ENCI quarry with a forest ranger
23 April, 26 April and 30 April
Near the centre of Maastricht, new nature is developing in the former ENCI quarry. With this activity, you join an excursion with the forester of Natuurmonumenten and experience together the stories of this special nature reserve.

During this activity, you will walk through the ENCI quarry in Sint-Pietersberg (St. Pietersberg hill) together with the forest ranger. This opencast quarry was created by the extraction of limestone by the First Dutch Cement Industry. In 2018, limestone mining stopped and nature seized its chance. With the help of Natuurmonumenten, special and, for the Netherlands, authentic nature is being created. Valleys, plateaus, limestone grass slopes and water features, in this former marl quarry you can experience all the elements of the South Limburg hill country. Spot the protected southern shore dragonfly and admire rare orchids. Discover the history of this quarry and get lost in your thoughts by the crystal-clear water.
