Kahlil Joseph: BLKNWS
T/m 29 June
Innovative film installation by Kahlil Joseph combining current and historical images about Black culture, now on show at the Bonnefanten in Maastricht.

BLKNWS (Black News) is an innovative film installation by Los Angeles artist and filmmaker Kahlil Joseph. First presented in 2019 at the Venice Biennale, this unique work, which is constantly being updated, is reminiscent of an innovative news channel. Joseph combines current and historical images to explore the representation of Black lives in media and art.
The installation consists of two side-by-side flat screens mounted on a background of photo wallpaper. In doing so, Joseph creates a 2-channel "news broadcast" in which the boundaries between art, journalism, entrepreneurship and cultural criticism are blurred. The work offers a critical analysis of racial issues and narratives, and their impact within information systems.
This extraordinary film installation is now on show at the Bonnefanten in Maastricht. An innovative work that encourages reflection and dialogue.
