Rinella Alfonso & Charles Eyck: On the other side of the ocean
UNTIL 14 September
Two artists, two generations, one dialogue. SCHUNCK Museum brings together the work of Rinella Alfonso and Charles Eyck.
Duo exhibition
This duo exhibition features works by Curaçao artist Rinella Alfonso and Limburg artist Charles Eyck, who stayed in Curaçao in the 1950s. The exhibition focuses on the differences between Curaçao then and now, and deals with themes such as identity and heritage.
Connection between past and present
The exhibition combines the work of Alfonso and Eyck. Rinella Alfonso creates dreamlike worlds centred on personal objects and memories of Curaçao. Her paintings reflect on meaningful objects, people, and customs from her homeland. Charles Eyck, a socially engaged Limburg artist, stayed in Curaçao in 1952-1953. There, he experimented with his painting style and found new artistic expressions.
The works of Alfonso and Eyck, separated by time and distance but linked by their focus on Curaçao, establish a connection between the heritage of Limburg and Curaçao. They illuminate both the past and the future of the art world and create space for diverse perspectives. The exhibition was created in collaboration with guest curator Tirzo Martha, art historian Monique Dickhaut, and Judaline Cyntje, director of the Curaçaosch Museum.
