Step inside the Maastricht Museum Museum and be transported to a time when the future of Europe was forged. Take a seat at the table at which, in 1992, the foundations were laid for what would become the European Union. Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance of the member states signed the Maastricht Treaty, a historic act that paved the way for a new era of European cooperation and laid the foundation for the introduction of the common European currency, the euro.

Discover the meaning behind the locations that played a role during the Maastricht Euro Summit. The Provincial Government of Limburg, with its Festival Hall and States Room, the epicentre of the negotiations where European leaders met to make important decisions. Here, not only economic and financial issues were discussed, but also broader topics such as migration, the fight against crime and defence.

Read about the caves of Neercanne, where Queen Beatrix expressed her support for European integration by putting her signature on a marl wall. This symbolic act is still remembered as an important moment in Europe's history.

Welcome to the heart of Europe, welcome to Maastricht!

Discover the fascinating objects closely linked to these historical events. The bronze commemorative medallion designed by Arthur Spronken and the iconic Ceulen chalk each tell a story of unity and cooperation.

Not only the locations, but also the people and events that surrounded the Euro Summit come to life in the museum. From the political talks in City Hall to the exuberant celebrations on the Market Square, every aspect of this historic event is highlighted. Experience the history of Europe and Maastricht's role in it. Would you sign the Maastricht Treaty? What is the thinking behind your choice? What, in your opinion, should be the focus of the EU?
